Karen Jarchow claims fat bike title for Topeak-Ergon

Topeak-Ergon takes its first winter championship title. Karen Jarchow flexed her early season muscle and form in the artic temperatures of the high mountains of Colorado.

In only its second year, the Fat Bike World Championships, held in the mountain bike mecca of Crested Butte, Colorado, are proving to be an annual epic winter battle. With a sold out field of 300 racers toeing the start line and temperatures hovering right at -8ºF it had the making for a cold, fast battle in the high mountains of Colorado.

Karen made her intentions known right from the start. She instantly made her way to the front of the race, riding in the Top 10 of the 300 racer field. For Karen and her competitors they would race 5 laps for a total of 27-miles. Karen took the lead and never looked back, creating a massive gap on her female competition.

Choked up after her 2 hours race effort, Karen said, "From the time the gun went off, the fear of the below zero degree F temperatures were instantly erased. The efficiency of the Canyon Dude fat bike helped me get into a good position, and made the race feel more like a road race than a snow bike slog. I stayed in a good group of men, exchanging pulls, and pushing each other from start to finish. It wasn't until the last few moments before the finish line that I knew I had it in the bag, with a sizeable gap. The feeling is indescribable, but knowing I've done the work keeps me motivated for the coming season."

Full of emotion and extremely happy with how the day went, Karen simply sat down and put her head in her hands with joy and a sense of accomplishment. Karen Jarchow is the 2017 Fat Bike World Champion!
